Key fob battery or car battery? My Hyundai started acting weird this week - merricklane - 20-10-2026 My 2019 Hyundai Tucson has about 67,000 kilometers, and for the past few days it has been giving me small problems that I cannot explain. The remote lock works only when I stand right next to the door, and twice this week the push button start refused to work until I pressed the key against the button. This morning the dashboard also showed a message that said something about the key battery, then the radio restarted by itself while I was driving. My brother says the key battery is finished and it costs almost nothing, so I am worrying too much. My friend says the problem is the main battery in the car, because weak power can make the electronics act strange before the engine even struggles. I did not know a car battery could cause something like that. I tried reading about it and found a page from a workshop in Sharjah that explained how heat and age slowly weaken a battery, and that a proper test looks at more than voltage. It did not say much about key fobs, but it made me think I should not guess. If you want a simple place to start, click here is what a friend told me when I asked him where to read about this, and I am only mentioning it because it helped me ask better questions. So here is what I want to know. Is there an easy way to tell if the weird behavior comes from the key or from the car battery? Can I change the key battery myself, and do I need to do anything after, like pairing it again? Also, does the car battery usually give a warning before it fails, or does it just die one morning? The battery is about three years old, so I am not sure if I should replace it early. If you had the same kind of strange signs, please tell me what the cause was and what you paid. Thanks everyone. |
